Swedish companies are at the forefront of innovation and technology.

Sweden is considered the largest concentration point of technology companies in Europe. Its success has been globalization, deregulation, and strong government support for the private tech sector. It has been considered the cradle of technology and great inventions. It is the home of the creators of Bluetooth, Tetra Pak packaging, Skype, Spotify, Oat Milk, the walking frame, the zip, and the pacemaker, among other inventions.


Here is a list of some Swedish companies that are characterized by being technologically innovative:


ASSA ABLOY, whose head offices are in Stockholm, is the global leader in door-opening solutions for hospitals, clinics, homes, hotels, companies, schools, universities, airports and more. Locks, access control, and automatic doors, as well as the hardware for them, meet the highest standards of quality, design and functionality, and can be found in security systems around the world (with a presence in over 70 countries.). In 2016 it was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the 100 most innovative companies in the world. In Mexico, for example, they have worked with BBVA Bancomer, north prison expansion, Hotel Marriott in Toluca, and Reforma-Diana Corporative, among others.


EINRIDE is a company that specializes in creating electric, autonomous and digital transport of zero-emissions and self-driving coordinated by artificial intelligence (Einride Saga). They have designed the first electric and autonomous truck on public roads (Einride Pods) and the Einride Trailer to streamline transfers and reduce fleet costs.


ELECTROLUX GROUP is a multinational corporation based in Stockholm, with a presence in Africa and the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, Europe, Latin America, and North America. They manufacture electrical appliances for home and professional use, selling more than 60 million products a year to customers in 150 countries. Electrolux products include refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, ranges, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners and portable appliances.


IKEA was founded in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad and has grown to nearly 460 stores in more than 50 countries. They design ideas and solutions to improve homes by selling furniture and accessories stylish do-it-yourself (DIY), products that are beautifully designed, have good functionality, are sustainable, of good quality and are available at an affordable price


SAAB serves the global marketplace with world-leading products, services and solutions, from military defence in all domains to civil security. They have 5 areas of expertise: aeronautics, advanced weapons systems, command and control systems, sensors and underwater systems. Saabs products are sold to over 100 countries and they currently operate in over 30 countries.


SKYPE, the startup of the voice-over-IP instant messaging program was created in 2003 by Niklaz Zennstrom of Sweden and Janus Friis of Denmark. The idea was developed and complemented thanks to the technicians who gave life to the project Priit Kasesalu, Ahti Heinia and Jaan Tallinn, all from Estonia, the place where Skype started. In May 2011, the company Microsoft announced the absolute purchase of Skype for the sum of 8.5 billion dollars.


SPOTIFY is a multimedia services company founded in 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, whose product is the application of the same name used to play music via streaming. The Headquarters are located in Stockholm, and they have offices in different parts of the world like Brussels, Belgium; Berlin, Germany; Toronto Ontario, Canada; København K, Denmark; Madrid, Spain; Helsinki, Finland; Mexico City; among others. Some key statistics are as follows: 422 million people use Spotify once a month, 182 million are subscribers; 70 million songs are available on Spotify and 2.9 million are podcasts.


TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET LM ERICSSON, commonly known as Ericsson, is one of the leading providers of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to service providers. Their portfolio ranges across Networks, Cloud Software Services, and Emerging businesses; powered by 5G and IoT platforms. Founded in 1876 by Lars Magnus Ericsson on the premise that access to communications is a basic human need. Whit 101,459 employees worldwide have provided hardware, software, and services to enable the full value of connectivity.


VATTENFALL is a multinational electricity company owned by the Swedish state and its headquarters are in Solna, Sweden. Beyond Sweden, the company generates power in Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Their goal is to enable fossil-free living within one generation.


VOLVO CARS, the largest company in Sweden, is a premium car manufacturer based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Founded in 1927 by the engineer Gustav Larson and the economist Assar Gabrielsson, as a subsidiary company of the bearing manufacturer SKF. Some facts about Volvo: first started making ball bearings in 1911; The first serial car that Volvo created was the ÖV4 in 1927. In 1959, Nils Bohlin, a Volvo engineer invented the seat belt; Volvo patented the three-point seat belt and left the patent open so that any car manufacturer could use it and thus save millions of lives.
